OTOL Big Apple RailFest 2005 was yet another railfan meet. Once again we returned to the New York City/New Jersey area and rode the rails.
First, three of us did an unofficial pre-fest run on the Newark City Subway on Friday night.
On Saturday, we featured some subway lines in Queens, Brooklyn, Upper Manhattan, and the Bronx, a ride on the Long Island Railroad's Far Rockaway Branch, a short ride within the city on Metro North's Hudson Line, and AirTrain JFK.
Sunday's activities included the newest segment of Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and round trips on NJ TRANSIT's North Jersey Coast Line to Bay Head and the Raritan Valley Line to Raritan.
The weather at this fest was better than the past several winter fests, however it was quite cold on Sunday, particularly for those who walked the mile between Bay Head and Point Pleasant Beach at lunchtime. We did have time to do everything that was on our final itinerary. On Saturday we were subjected to a couple of subway delays. But on Sunday we actually ended up an hour earlier than planned.
