This was the RailFest that was postponed in 2020 due to Coronavirus. Rescheduled 3 years later.
OTOL Boston RailFest 2023 was another visit to the Boston area as well as travel up to Maine.
The goals of the 54th Fest I've handled were to ride the Downeaster in its entirety to Brunswick, ME and to ride the outermost segment of MBTA commuter rail Fitchburg Line out to Wachusett. I also chose a re-ride of the Fairmount Line, a relatively short commuter rail line that has seen upgrades in recent years. We also rode the newly opened Green Line Extension (GLX) to both Somerville and Medford. Finally, since there is once again commuter rail service to Foxboro on weekdays, a trip out there on Friday was added.
Seven of us got together and rode the rails, and it was good to see everyone and be able to enjoy our hobby once more in a city transit setting as well as riding Amtrak as a group.
