OTOL Southern California RailFest 2009 was yet another great railfan event. We rode transit and/or commuter rail in many different cities. To, from, and between them we took Amtrak.
Monday, July 13
Our journey started with a trip between the East Coast and New Orleans on the southbound CRESCENT. Overnight on train.
Tuesday, July 14
Continued on the CRESCENT. Arrived in New Orleans mid-evening. Some took optional "moonlight" St. Charles Streetcar ride.
Wednesday, July 15
Boarded SUNSET LIMITED in New Orleans late morning to continue our westward journey. Overnight on train.
Thursday, July 16
In Transit on SUNSET LIMITED.
Friday, July 17
Late morning arrival of westbound SUNSET LIMITED in Los Angeles. 5 hours downtime built in to store luggage at hotels or check-in, and have lunch. Evening round trip on Metrolink's Ventura County Line to Moorpark. Dinner in Hollywood.
Saturday, July 18
Round trips on Metrolink's San Bernardino and Antelope Valley Lines. Lunch in Los Angeles, Dinner in Lancaster.
Sunday, July 19
Rode entire MTA Gold, Blue, and Green Lines. Also Waterfront Red Car.
Monday, July 20
Rode entire MTA Purple and Red Lines. Metrolink round trip to cover Riverside and IEOC Lines, and part of Orange County Line. Lunch in Los Angeles, dinner at Universal CityWalk.
Tuesday, July 21
Left Los Angeles. Amtrak's PACIFIC SURFLINER to Oceanside. Rode NCTD Sprinter and Coaster, ending up in San Diego. Rode MTS San Diego Trolley Blue & Green Lines to Santee, dinner there, then Orange Line back to downtown.
Wednesday, July 22
Rode MTS San Diego Trolley Orange Line downtown loop and Blue Line to San Ysidro. Amtrak's PACIFIC SURFLINER from San Diego to Los Angeles. Left mid-evening on Amtrak's eastbound SOUTHWEST CHIEF. Overnight on train.
Thursday, July 23
In Transit on SOUTHWEST CHIEF.
Friday, July 24
Arrived in Chicago mid-afternoon. Departed late night on eastbound LAKE SHORE LIMITED. Overnight on train.
Saturday, July 25
Arrived in our respective East Coast cities, and proceeded home.
